Faces
A lot can be read from the look on a person’s face. Even children can discern when it is a favorable time to make that special request. Often it is really hard to hide your true feelings from others who can see your face.
A German sculptor, Danniker, spent 8 years trying to get just the right expression on a model of what he thought Jesus must have looked like. Some observers were overcome with emotion when they saw the result. He was then asked to do the same with the Greek goddess, Venus. He replied, “After gazing so long into the face of Christ, think you that I can now turn my attention to a heathen goddess?”
An infidel artist was commissioned to produce a caricature of a Salvation Army meeting in Sheffield, England. After scanning their faces that showed joy and peace he was convicted about his own sinfulness. He decided that he needed what they had.
The hymn writer, H. H. Lemmel, put it this way.
Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face;
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace.
