Town staff will examine the issues and costs around updating and upgrading Oliver’s website after a council member pointed out Monday that some of the content of the site is dated and inaccurate.
Councillor Jack Bennest told council that while perusing the site recently he came across a reference to the town contributing $25,000 to the local chamber of commerce. That is not true and never was the case, he said.
“The website does not get the attention it deserves,” he said, suggesting that the town should either “do it well,” or not do it at all.
“There is all kinds of stuff on the website that is dated or not accurate,” he said.
Councillor Larry Schwartzenberger concurred: “It’s of value, but it’s dated.” He suggested that council look at the website during the next round of budget talks.
Chief financial officer David Svetlichny told councillors that staff brought forward a proposal to upgrade the website two years ago, but council decided not to proceed with it. He said staff would include something on the subject during the next round of budget considerations later this year. The site is at www.oliver.ca.
