In a 5 to 2 vote – trustees have decided to apply for $490 thousand in funding to keep open the Osoyoos Secondary School.
Trustees of School District 53 Okanagan Similkameen also heard a notice of motion to rescind a bylaw that intended to close that high school after an extensive consultative process this spring.
The provincial government in several last minute funding announcement made it possible for this to happen.
Nothing is final until Victoria agrees to the terms of maintenance and operating costs needed to keep the school open.
The dissent on the board seemed to centre not on the loss of a school but on the choice of courses that could be made available for all high school students in a larger institution like SOSS.
This is but a brief outline of tonight’s school board meeting.
