Structurlam staff, architects, area dignitaries and community members all gathered at the company’s south plant to sign the final beam and panel of the projects.

“We have done a lot of iconic buildings over the years but today we are celebrating two world-class structures, the Rocky Ridge Recreation Facility in Calgary and UBC Brock Commons in Vancouver,” said Structurlam president Bill Downing. “I’ve spent my entire career in the wood product industry and this is one of the most exciting days of my life.

It’s a real South Okanagan success story as well as a B.C. success story.”

The company is a North American leader in mass timber solutions including cross-laminated timber and glued laminated timber, sustainable products that replace concrete and steel in the construction process.

It has earned much recognition over the years. On Friday, Downing and others, including the architect for Brock, Russell Acton, and Rocky Ridge, Dave Edmunds, spoke about their projects.

Brock will be the world’s tallest wood building upon completion and will serve as a benchmark for future wood constriction.

Rocky Ridge features the world’s largest wood constructed roof in North America, covering about 28,000 square meters.
