Bitter root, or as the local indigenous people called it, Spatlum. Latin name: Lewisia rediviva. Also called rock roses locally. It’s the lucky hiker who sees it in the dry hills in the Oliver area for its brief flowering season. A jewel of a flower, and historically the roots were an important food source for native people.
