As four students from Southern Okanagan Secondary School’s Social Justice 12 class –
Paige Riley, Gavin Buttar, Alexis Smith, and Bailey Smith, are hosting an art show entitled “We are All Human”.
This project came about from the class asking groups of students to choose a final year end project that would help make the world a better place. All four of us have a passion for art and for helping others, so this idea was brought up with enthusiasm and excitement. After one of us came to know and grew close to the “new to Oliver” Al Lwisi family a new perspective was gained on the ongoing crisis in Syria from a more personal level. This perspective became the focus of our project “We are All Human” taking place this Wednesday, June 15th at the South Okanagan Immigrate Services Centre. Donated art will be on display and for sale from 5:00 – 7:00 pm. All proceeds from donations and/or art sales will be given to Syrian Refugee families in need. Come and meet us, ask questions, enjoy the art and try some Syrian food!
