A 39 year old Peachland man with close ties to Summerland, Penticton and the South Okanagan is facing a number of charges after police arrested him in Summerland June 9, 2016. It all started after Sahand SOBHANI failed to show up for his weekend jail sentence in Penticton on May 20, 2016. RCMP quickly requested an arrest warrant for SOBHANI who had been unlawfully at large until his arrest.
On June 9 the Penticton Targeted Enforcement Unit spent the better part of the day following up on leads in an attempt to locate SOBHANI. The TEU ended up at a residence in Summerland where SOBHANI managed to flee the property as police started to search but was swiftly apprehended a short distance away while trying to leave the area in a taxi cab. Further investigation resulted in police seizing a 9mm handgun which had recently been reported stolen from a break and enter days prior.
“A strong team effort resulted in the safe apprehension of this individual” said Cpl. Scott Van Every of the Penticton Target Enforcement Unit who added “Getting another handgun off of the street and out of the hands of a criminal makes our community a safer place today”.
As a result, SOBHANI is now facing new fire arm related charges. SOBHANI has been remanded into custody until June 22, for a next court appearance.
