Oliver Fire Department report:
We responded to reports of a grass/bush fire up at the Loose Bay Campground. Officers first on scene did have a grass fire and it was moving away from the campground being fueled by winds. Fire crews arrived on scene and quickly extinguished the fire, assisted by Willowbrook fire department.
The cause of this fire is an unattended campfire. The Oliver Fire Department would like to say that if winds had been moving the opposite direction, then the fire could have been pushed right through the campground and possibly into thicker brush and a more serious event would have taken place. Due to conditions in Oliver and surrounding area the Oliver Fire Department has placed a campfire ban for the Oliver Fire Protection Area.
At the same time, crews were diverted to a report of a structure fire on road #9. Fire crews first on scene reported a fire in the upper floor of a workshop/shed. Crews had to pull apart some of the wood panel walls and roof to extinguish the flames.
