Thursday rant
This week we celebrate the fact that both Osoyoos Times and Oliver Chronicle have stories in their weekly newspapers promoting the fine work of Oliver Daily News.
Both seek to link the Publisher to some form of conflict –
- He takes pictures of the community and meets with other elected officials 24 times a year
- He knows, communicates well and respects MLA Linda Larson
- ODN is a “blog” and not a trusted media source
Both newspapers have taken a pro-national park stance and shown little respect for the other side of the issue.
ODN on the other hand likes to keep in contact with both sides of all issues – in Oliver and Osoyoos.
Oliver Daily News is widely read from Summerland to the border.
ODN has hired the services of Roy Wood, former Edmonton Journal editor to write on civic meetings. We also use the services of Andrew Stuckey and Derrick Robson – all with news publishing experience.
Because we are not printed on paper and use no ink – we will have to live with the name of “blogger”.
Jack Bennest, taught broadcast journalism at Langara College, a respected “beat” reporter/story producer in Vancouver for more than 10 years (CJOR – CKNW and CBC) and broadly educated in government affairs.
One last point – the people of Oliver have graciously elected Bennest to civic office for six terms.
