July 5, 1931 – April 24, 2016
On Sunday April 24, 2016 Mr. Roy James of Oliver, BC passed away peacefully surrounded by family at McKinney Place at the age of 84 years.
Roy was predeceased by his wife June James(Milburn) of 61 years, father Harry James, his mother Ethel James(Ayres), his sister Dorothy McAlpine.
Roy will be fondly remembered by his loving family including his son Tracy (Judy) James, Grandchildren Kyle, Coby (Miranda), Great grandchildren, Jake, Jaxson and Ava. Son Rodney James (Dora Stelkia), grandchildren Dustin (Kaitlin), Bryton (Sarrena) great granddaughter Zenaya, granddaughter Brianna, brother in-law Darryl (Tiger) and his wife Jean Milburn, brother Doug (Marg) James, as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Roy was born in Nelson, BC and raised in South Slocan B.C. Roy started work with West Kootenay Power at the age of 18 right up until her retired 42 years later in 1991. At a very young age Roy became a volunteer fireman with the Warfield Fire Dept. Roy & June married on April 27, 1954 in Trail BC where they raised their two boys Tracy and Rodney until their move to Oliver BC in 1974 buying a home for their family of four. Roy continued working with WKP/Fortis BC and wanting to continue to contribute to his community he became a volunteer for the Oliver Fire Dept. Later years he continued as a “C” member to help as much as he could.
Roy loved walking, birds, dogs, children and his community. He enjoyed his many camping, fishing and hunting trips with friends and family. Hobbies were making fire pits, and hot dog roasting sticks.
Roy dedicated most of his spare time to many golf fundraisers for cancer, many hours preparing food for the Soup Kitchen and dedicated much time to the Oliver Food Bank.
Roy’s family would like to sincerely thank the staff at McKinney Place for their kind, compassionate and ever loving care!
No formal service by Roy’s request. A private family service will take place in Nelson, BC at a later date. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in her memory to a food bank, soup kitchen or charity of your choice.
