On Monday April 25, 2016, just after 04:00 a.m. the Williams Lake RCMP received a report that shots had been fired at a residence in the 900 block of Western Ave in the City.
Officers attended the scene and determined that an unknown subject(s) had fired several shots at the residence.
This is believed to be a targeted incident as the residence was recently occupied by an individual who claimed to be a local gang member, but the residence is currently occupied by a family with no criminal connections. Fortunately no one was injured in this incident.
Shortly after officers arrived on scene, another shot was heard from an unknown direction which resulted in heightened vigilance by the officers.
As a precaution measure, the Williams Lake RCMP notified the local School District, University, and area residents of the situation and recommended that everyone stay away from the area until further notice.
Police have seized a firearm and currently have one person in custody connected to this incident.
Although the residence in question is still being secured, the School District, Local University and residence have been notified that they can continue with their daily activities. We wish to thank the public for their patience and understanding during this volatile situation.
