Lawn watering now three days a week
By ROY WOOD
Bowing to the requirements of the dominant technology, council has changed the lawn-watering bylaw to from alternate days to a three-day-per-week regimen for the town and the rural area.
At a meeting earlier this month, council imposed an alternating days schedule that would see even-numbered addresses allowed to water on even dates and odd addresses on odd days.
However, the town received a number of complaints from residents who pointed out that their automated sprinkling systems could not be programmed for alternating days.
On Monday council agreed to change the bylaw a three-days-a-week schedule, which is compatible with most watering systems.
As result, odd-numbered addresses may water on Sunday, Wednesday and Friday and even addresses on Saturday, Tuesday and Thursday.
Other restrictions include:
•Automatic sprinklers may only operate between midnight and 6 a.m.;
•Manual sprinklers may operate only between 6 and 10 a.m. and from 7 p.m. to midnight;
•No lawn sprinkling of any kind between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.;
•Water hoses can be used to wash boats or vehicles only if they are equipped automatic shut-off nozzles;
•No washing of sidewalks, driveways or parking lots except in preparation for re-surfacing or re-covering.
More stringent restrictions are included in the bylaws for times when the town faces a water shortage or needs to conserve water for some other reason.
