Open For Business
The tulips are blooming. During the day the petals open up, displaying their beauty and attracting pollinating insects. They are open for business. When darkness falls the petals close up the flower. Conserve your fragrance when there’s no one to appreciate it. Display your beauty when there is someone to be attracted by it. That is an amazing design feature found in a number of plants. Furthermore that action must prevent unwelcome night guests and even avoid damage to an open flower at the wrong time. Tulips bloom such a short time that they have to capitalize on the best opportunities.
What is it that triggers those responses? It is the sunshine. I noticed that those tulips which were already exposed to the morning sun had opened up, those in the shade were still closed up. That sends a message to us. If we allow the sunshine (Sonshine?) of God’s love to impact us we too can spread fragrance at the right time and draw people into positive experiences. It’s darkness in our life that closes off communication and repels people. What kind of an ‘aroma’ do I spread? What do I do with great opportunities for doing something good? Probing thought.
