I have railed against the process so I must now say something positive.
1. Would not want to be a school trustee!
2. The majority made a tough decision unfortunately those elected from Osoyoos did not join them in the vote – which means it is a bit political. Those voting to close the school from out of town.
3. One outsider voted with Osoyoos. Good on you Myrna!!
4. All trustees could have voted to operate on a deficit and face dismissal – that would be gutsy.
5. Reality – other schools will close. Maybe OK Falls, maybe Cawston, maybe it will be Oliver’s turn.
6. A final note – the state of declining enrollment must be proven, explained and understood better in rural BC. Please do that before the next school faces the chopping block.
and it does not look good that Oliver has three elementary schools.
