The Fortis electrical substation in Oliver has been the target of two cases of vandalism in recent weeks that has knocked out power for Oliver residents.
The most recent case was Saturday afternoon at 12:30 p.m. A person threw a metal pole with wiring attached to it over the fence and onto the substation wires.
The metal caused the power in Oliver to go out for a short period of time.
Ten days prior to Saturday’s incident, at 11:30 a.m., a person threw another metal pole into the substation, with similar results.
“The risk of harm to the person(s) responsible in doing such mischief would certainly result in serious injury or death should they come in contact with the electrical system,” Oliver RCMP Sgt. Blaine Gervais said in a statement.
The RCMP have asked anyone with information about the incidents to contact the local police or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
