The School District has chosen not to advertise this meeting
I had thought by this time – the decision would have been made to cancel the meeting – with all trustees stating: “we have found funding for one more year and will study the complex issue in the next year with a vast program of education and consultation – district wide.”
If declining enrollment is a serious problem the case should be provable that many schools will have to be closed and students integrated and bussed.
If the problem is as serious as stated a closure in the Similkameen, Okanagan Falls, Oliver and Osoyoos would be in order and that plan should be shown to the “tax paying” public.
I will go back to my first comment in January – “the process is flawed, a mistake, and not well thought out.”
The process seemed to be designed to pit one community against another – and human nature being what it is – the strongest voices might be coming from those that like the attention – not those that want to find a solution for everyone.
As a geographical area – School District #53 is huge – the solution to the problem doesn’t sit in Osoyoos – the “real fix” is region wide.
I hasten to add, I am glad I am NOT an elected trustee faced with this dilemma.
