The Botanist
A botanist wandered into the mountains of Scotland to look for some of his favorite flowers. He spotted one that was very small but very beautiful under the microscope. Setting his microscope up in such a way as to gain the maximum benefit from the sun he spent a long time looking at it from various angles. So focused was he on his observations that he did not notice the tall, weather-beaten shepherd approaching. When the shepherd’s shadow fell across his microscope, he looked up and noticed a somewhat bemused man watching him. “What are you doing with such a common thing as a tiny flower?” he asked. “That’s just a waste of time.” Without a word the botanist beckoned him to have a look. After a while the shepherd got up and looked at the botanist in a different way. He even had tears in his eyes. “What’s the matter?” asked the botanist. “Isn’t it beautiful?” The shepherd could hardly speak. “It’s more than beautiful, and here I have stepped on many of them without a thought. I thought they were worthless. Mine was the waste.”
We are approaching the Easter season which reminds us of the reason why Jesus came to earth. “For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.” Luke 19:10 We could come to the conclusion that mankind is not worth redeeming – especially not at the cost of death on a cross. But He did it because He loved us and considered us precious. He really cares about you!
There’s love on the sunny side,
