A paper bag brought into the Oliver Bakery this week by a regular.
It is in perfect condition and could be 35-40 years old.
Yes – the Valley Bakery was next to Super Valu but not the building you know as the present location. To pioneers and many people the Super Valu became the Fields store across from the Chevron Station.
Ted Gleis was owner of the Valley Bakery and he sold the business but not the building and mini-mall.
Mr. Gleis is alive and lives in Oliver. The owners of the Super Valu store (Ken and Ken) have passed.
Yes the Oliver Super Valu we know today is closing in May to be replaced by a Loblaws’s outlet. Loblaws has many store types – it could be a “No Frills” outlet. Who will run it and work there has not been decided.
When ODN know something concrete we will publish it. It could be shut down for two months to do a complete refit.
