This week – a rock scaling crew using a helicopter will work on the escarpment at Gallagher Lake.
Town of Oliver, Director of Operations Shawn Goodsell says: The scaling company is T and A Rock Works from Kelowna and will try to get all work done today, Thursday and Saturday.
The helicopter will take scalers to the top of cliff. Using ropes, scalers will work their way down clearing out loose rocks to allow for a safe project – yet to come – repairing an underground siphon at the edge of the lake.
Cost of the entire project could be a half million dollars but needs to be done to allow for a regular schedule of filling the irrigation ditch for another season. It is a tight time frame and exact costs won’t be known until the work is done.
