Oliver Mountain was proposed as a Goal 2 Protected Area in the finalized Okanagan Similkameen Land and Resource Management Plan of 2001 due to the significant ecological values found there. The Goal 2 has never been fully dedicated as a Protected Area and therefore it has not been protected.
Recently, the Province has provided direction on two items related to Oliver Mountain and the public has an opportunity to provide comment:
First, the Province is recommending implementation of a Wildlife Act motorized vehicle closure on a large portion of the Oliver Mountain proposed Goal 2 area.
Secondly, the Province is recommending the establishment of an designated off-road vehicle recreation site on Oliver Mountain rather than an alternate area away from Oliver Mountain.
Comments regarding Oliver Mountain can be sent directly to FLRNO staff as the original public web link did not work.
See the map here and send your comments to Amy.Tipler@gov.bc.ca before this Friday, February 19th.
Details regarding additional consultation on the establishment of the off-road vehicle recreation site will be outlined in future by the Province.
