Accessibility to be on OCP radar
Council voted Tuesday to include accessibility as one of the cornerstones of the upcoming Official Community Plan (OCP) review.
A presentation to council last month by members of the disabled community urged council to form an Accessibility Advisory Committee as part of an initiative to address better access for people with disabilities.
Council on Tuesday stopped short of agreeing to form an advisory committee. Instead it opted to embed recognition of the need for greater accessibility in this year’s review of the town’s OCP.
According to the town website, the OCP is “the overriding document that governs land use in the town. … (It) sets out the principal policies for growth in Oliver, including a generalized land use plan and guidelines for various development permit areas.”
The OCP was last reviewed in 2002.
Building activity disappointing
The monthly building permit application report for January showed exactly zero building activity for the month.
Councillors agreed that none of them could recall a month in which there was no activity recorded in the report.
Mayor Ron Hovanes said Wednesday, “We knew things were quiet … we’re hoping that things will pick up here shortly.”
