Desert Sun will be the host agency for the South Okanagan’s very own Community Response Network (CRN).
The local organization with offices in Osoyoos and Oliver applied to the CRN for funds to cover the set up costs of same, as they receive their funds from Gaming to operate these programs across the province.
CRN’s are community driven and all community members, allied health professionals, service groups are welcome to participate!! CRN’s are about being the eyes and ears of the community! CRN’s are about education, awareness and prevention when it comes to abuse and neglect of seniors living in the South Okanagan.
CRN’s offer coordinated responses to anyone in the community seeking services, referrals, resources for any sort of help or guidance. What is interesting here, is that Desert Sun has always done this type of good work here in the SO, it just so happens that now there is a small amount of funding to help with it!
Tamara Aspell, as Executive Director of Desert Sun Counselling will work closely with Interior Health, Mental Health, the RCMP Victim’s Services and the Better at Home Seniors program within DS, we can often have a referral for a person that has “fallen through the cracks,” & is only now connected because of a crisis. If someone does not have contact with any of those aforementioned services, they are potentially at risk of abuse or neglect.
Desert Sun will continue to do the good work connecting those in our community, with the best-fit referrals and community outreach. Desert Sun is looking at a seamless integration of the South Okanagan CRN, and welcome any feedback, comments, questions from the community via email at desertsuncrn@gmail.com
