On 2016-01-29 at 9:44PM, Oliver RCMP received a report of a single vehicle motor vehicle collision on Highway 97, near River Rd., just north of Oliver, BC. Officers attended to find a grey 2008 Dodge Avenger off-road left against a sheared utility pole at that location. Investigation suggested that the vehicle was heading northbound on Hwy 97 just south of River Rd., when it slid on the icy road surface and headed into oncoming traffic. The driver attempted to correct but lost control and the vehicle went off the southbound side into a utility pole. The 43 year old male driver, and his 64 year old male passenger, both of Merrit, BC were transported to South Okanagan General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. They were examined and later released. The vehicle is believed to have been a total write-off. Utilities were not affected by the damage to the utility pole and traffic patterns remained unaffected. Weather and road conditions are believed to have been significant contributing factors to the motor vehicle incident. No charges are being considered.
