Questions for all school trustees?
Did you know of the recommendations of staff prior to January 13th?? And what did you to do to stop this plan before it hit the news?
Wednesday January 13th – that’s the day a staff report surprised most in the room including me, the Mayor of Oliver and more importantly the Mayor of Osoyoos – that all other options had been looked at and the most reasonable idea – worthy of consultation – was the closure of the Osoyoos Elementary School and the bussing of senior students to Oliver.
Why did School District 53 Okanagan Similkameen NOT take a broader approach like that in Okanagan Skaha – to consult with all district schools, public, and parent groups??
The illusion I got last week was that this was all a big surprise to Sam Hancheroff and June Harrington based on their comments to the media with pen in hand.
BS – if I can be so bold. Is the staff in charge? Does it make it better if you are surprised and take a totally independent decision with no prior knowledge?? They did KNOW what was coming.
I like the idea that the whole district should be consulted NOT just the area someone has targeted.
This policy appears to be designed to set one area against another area…. Osoyoos saying Oliver should take the hit. Oliver saying OK Falls is worthy of a look. Keremeos/Cawston saying – wow they are leaving us alone.
These are tough decisions to be made. PROCESS. It’s about process. FAILING grade given by this writer to those in charge of the process.
