Directors seem to like the idea of a hike path next to Okanagan Lake – Trout Creek to Penticton but not overly interested in paying for it.
The provincial government has expressed an interest in paying 25 percent of the 8 million dollar cost if Summerland, Penticton and the RDOS pay the bulk the money.
RDOS directors are fixed on developing the KVR trail – Osoyoos to Summerland, Summerland to Princeton and will explain that in a letter to the Minister of Highways Todd Stone and local MLA Dan Ashton.
The provincial government and the District of Summerland recently completed such a hike path from Lower Summerland to Trout Creek.
Summerland Mayor Peter Waterman says the path along the lake is great but doing the rest of the pathway to Penticton would be a major funding challenge for Summerland and RDOS partners.
Penticton Councillor Andre Martin the only director voting against the motion to NOT express interest in the 25% – 4 way plan. Both he and Director Sentes say there should be a positive spin placed on the idea with concerns about the funding plan.
