Residents say there are serious safety issues crossing the highway at Gallagher Lake. Politicians want some action but – a question of how much, who pays and what/when should it be done.
We talked today to Mark Woods (Community Services Manager) at the RDOS in Penticton and he says he has been tasked to be the point man in moving this idea further along – one reason for that is the Mark is in the area looking at the trail master plan and any crossing/underpass etc. might become part of the map.
Woods says this is really a Ministry of Highways job (MOTI) and there are no 2016 funds committed by anyone so it is rather conceptual at the moment.
Residents participating on a Community Plan have requested that safety issues be dealt with but it might take a high level push to get it done.
One idea is for an underpass at the bridge (above) but thought by some as a waste if no one uses it and people still try to cross near the local campsite, home park roads and exits (below). It is easy to count the traffic passing but the amount of people crossing hard to measure.
