This corresponds to a decrease of 47%.
Trends: Drug trafficking files remained the same in 2015 as compared to 2014, 24 hour suspensions (66% decrease), and IRPs (15%decrease). Notable increase in theft of vehicle (24% increase over2014), mischief (34% decrease from 2014), and fraud (15% increase from 2014). Osoyoos Detachment members have been diligently working to reduce the number of auto thefts as well as other thefts. In this quarter the numbers of thefts have decreased due to the arrest of Prolific Offenders.
Osoyoos Detachment will also be conducting a town forum in March of 2016 to educate the public on how they can prevent thefts of vehicles as well as how they can assist police. Police used increased targeted foot, boat, utv and bicycle patrols throughout the summer to reduce offences being committed on water and land. The total payout for these patrols was $5100.00. The Town of Osoyoos donates $10,000 each year with additional funds from the Province to assist with the overtime to make these patrols possible. Only a portion of the funds were used this year due to the number of resources required for the South Okanagan fires, searches for a drowning victim in Osoyoos Lake, as well as other major incidents that occurred throughout the year.
