Free Grant Writing Workshop
Does the thought of writing a grant stress you out? Do you wonder what funders are really looking for or how to make your application stand out from all of the other ones?
The Community Foundation of the South Okanagan | Similkameen is hosting a free grant writing workshop at the Oliver Community Centre this Friday, January 8th from 1 – 3 p.m.
The workshop will cover basic grant writing tips including: the Do’s and Don’ts of successful grant writing, how to tell your story so it stands out from the crowd, what the funders are looking for and best practices for grant writing. The workshop will also include a tutorial on the new online two-step application process. This process includes the online grant application and demonstration of creating a profile on the “Community knowledge Centre” website. At the end of the two hour workshop there will be an additional hour for people to get hands on advice and help from Community Foundation staff.
“The extra hour at the end of the workshop will give participants an opportunity to get additional help on their application. I recommend people bring their laptop so they can receive immediate support in navigating the new online application process.” said Aaron McRann, Executive Director of the Community Foundation of the South Okanagan | Similkameen.
During the workshop, McRann will also outline the changes to the criteria for the 2016 funding cycle. The Community Foundation will be disbursing more than $367,000 to charities throughout the South Okanagan Similkameen, an increase on the $344,000 that was granted in 2015. The deadline to get your grant application is February 19th.
There will also be additional workshops January 14th from 10am-12pm in Princeton, January 14th from 2-4pm in Keremeos and January 15 from 10am-12pm in Penticton. Space is limited, so those who are interested in attending the workshop are encouraged to register by calling 250-493-9311 or email admin@cfso.net as soon as possible.
