“Traffic and General duty officers from both Penticton and Summerland are on scene of a single vehicle accident on Hwy 97 near Trout Lake.
Vehicle lost control on the extremely icy roads and entered Okanagan Lake. One occupant has been recovered from the vehicle. Members from the RCMP dive team are en route as unknown any other occupants.
Several bystanders immediately entered the lake to assist the driver and are being treated for hyperthermia.
The highway has been shut down due to extreme icy conditions. Highways have been notified and are en route. Media has also been advised of road closure and incident.” – Bulletin Penticton RCMP
Radio chatter indicates the accident occurred near the Kickininee Provincial lakeside park.
