Diet, Detox, Cleanse, Clean Eating, False Claims… blah, blah, blah…
If we need motivation such as the start of a new year, a new week, a special occasion, as long as it works, it’s Great! It’s a time of year when some are thinking about losing a few pounds, getting in shape etc. Maybe it’s something we tell ourselves we’re going to do over & over but may never get started or give up in a few days or weeks. Do we quickly give up? Why is it always tomorrow? What’s wrong with today? We either do it or we don’t, the choice is ours.
Advertising sucks in a lot of people, especially those who might be feeling a little desperate or maybe those who are feeling guilty for indulging or those who are looking for a quick fix. You can lose 20 pounds in 8 days! Yeah… what they don’t tell us is that it’s going to be mostly water weight that we lose so therefore it will return. Diet (in the sense of ‘losing’ weight), has a beginning & an end so therefore isn’t long term so likely the results won’t last.
Why do we want to ‘lose’ weight anyway? Don’t people who usually lose something want to find it again? Let’s release unneeded fat forever! I like the sound of that better :)
Detox & Cleanses… what are we really trying to get out of our bodies that our organs can’t handle? We don’t need to waste our money on products that promise to clean up our system. We have an Awesome automatic built in self-cleansing system… 1 liver & 2 kidneys to do the job. Maybe when some say detox or cleanse, they’re thinking of cleaning up their habits? That’s great! No products needed other than some good wholesome food. Start with adding vegetables. If we regularly eat veggies then we can try something new.
What about eating ‘clean’? I think when most use this expression it means that they don’t eat any processed foods. Everything they consume is in it’s natural state. In reality even natural/whole foods are not necessarily clean. They can contain toxins. Many recalls are vegetables. When I say I eat clean, I mean that I wash my fruit & veggies before eating them :)
We need to stop looking for a quick fix! If we’re the type of person that tries this diet & that diet & this claim & that claim… we’ve probably already figured out that they don’t work. So why continue this pattern if it’s not working? It’s time to try something new, something long lasting, something that actually works. It’s a permanent lifestyle change.
Just because we decided to have a donut or 2… or a meal of pizza & beer, doesn’t mean we’ve failed in our healthy endeavors. It means we’re human. The problem is when we eat like that the whole day or week or month. Eat the foods you enjoy without the guilt. Get back on track & continue on with your healthy lifestyle change. Don’t quit! If we have a difficult time making healthy choices every day then that’s where the lifestyle change needs to start happening. Add 1 veggie to your day. Simple start. We can only fail when we quit, so don’t ever quit!
Keep it Simple
