Cars blocking snow plows will risk towing
Cars that inhibit ice and snow clearing from the streets of Osoyoos will be subject to towing after council approved a change to its traffic bylaw on Monday.
In a report to council, operations director Jim Dinwoodie said that while they are rare, there are occasions when parked cars make it impossible for the town’s plow truck to get through.
He said town staff would attempt to contact vehicle owners before their vehicles are towed, but sometimes that won’t work.
He said initially that the cars would be towed to the towing company’s impound lot, but agreed that, where possible, they could just be pulled “around the corner and out of the way.”
Music in the Park good to go for 2016
There will be music in the Gyro Park again this summer as Osoyoos council committed to spend a little over $6,000 to cover the costs.
The nine-session Music in the Park series kicks off in early July and runs on Friday nights though August, except during two street-dance weeks when the music switches to Saturday. On rainy nights, the show moves to the Legion.
The grant will come out of the 2015 Resort Municipalities Initiative budget, which contains an unspent balance.
Tots playground slated for Lions Park
An accessible playground for kids five and younger will start taking shape in Lions Park this spring after council voted to approved $25.000 for the project.
The remainder of the $65,000 cost of the playground is covered by a grant from the provincial Enabling Accessibility Fund.
Supplier of the playground equipment is Rec Tec industries of Penticton. The firm was able to get the contract without going through a Request for Proposals process because it is part of the provincial Corporate Supply Arrangement.
