“Silver bells! Silver bells! It’s Christmas time, in the city!” Oh wait, these bells aren’t silver, but it is Christmastime in the town and blinking lights reflect the shimmering gold of the Oliver Handbells.
Hear them ring as they share another wonderful program of Christmas and winter music with the community this Friday Dec. 11th at 7:30pm and Sunday Dec. 13th at 3:00pm, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Oliver.
This year we are joined by Felipe Mendes on drums as we perform varying styles of music to celebrate Christmas. We also are pleased to announce our Master of Ceremonies, Allan Heal who is set to welcome you to our concert and entertain you throughout. Invite your friends, bring your kids (all ages) and come and join us for a fun-filled, holiday-season, evening from candlelight and chimes to celebration and bells.
Ringers and singers come from Osoyoos to Penticton and are of all ages with our youngest ringer being eight years old! Come and see our showcase of the talented and skilled ringers and singers from the local area. Our gift to you, friends and neighbours, has been months in the making and is ready to be unwrapped by you!
Each year the Oliver Handbell Ringers have worked to add new instruments and equipment to the group allowing more diversity of sounds and new pieces to play. This year we are pleased to add our first octave of Cymbells. Come and hear how one person can double the sounds made by 4 ringers on handbells and after the program have the chance to see the bells up close and ring one with one of our ringers!
Don’t miss this wonderful experience of Christmas music this season. Admission is free, although a freewill offering will be taken to help cover costs, and items for the foodbank are gratefully accepted.
