The ODN
To put the ODN in a nutshell ….sorry it cannot be done.
For such a small feature in the ways of the world; the Oliver Daily News is a power to reckon with.
I am sure all of the loyal followers who open up the page on a daily basis will agree, it is a very good footprint of all that is happening in our community. Not only news; but every service imaginable is represented in a format that is easy to follow and a joy to read.
When you read about local new events the reporting is up to date and instant; like when we had all the recent fires (boy have we had fires). In fact looking back over the past couple of years, we would have been hard pressed to find better reporting on:
The big downtown fire
The High School fire
The Testalinden mud slide
The huge Summer of 2015 Oliver fire
Also. stories about a certain Manhunt right here in town…..wow! that one got my attention.
Every story has pictures ….and lots of them.
Speaking of pictures; who doesn’t just love all the pictures contributed by the readers themselves? Even I have participated in that and I must say, it felt pretty cool to have my photos published.
Want to know what’s happening in the community?
ODN is here to provide us with Dates, Times and Places.
Election coverage…ODN
Fairs…Concerts..special events? ODN
Community Resource information…you know it!
Advertising your Business? I never realized just how many businesses there were in Oliver until I saw them all in ODN.
Weekly Flyers on ODN are great….oh yeah….I will bet everybody knows who Bonnie Hayes is…right?
Got some stuff you want to sell? List it in the Free Classified section. By the way; nice touch keeping all the ads under $999
Hey what’s going on at School? Find out from ODN
Got a gripe….send a letter to the Editor
Got a good tale to tell about life in the old days…ODN
Travel stories abound, complete with pictures posted by locals.
Politics? Don’t get me started on that one….just kidding…ODN will let us know what’s happening….impartially of course.
National Park…ODN
We can even see a few stories from the surrounding towns and cities. ODN seems to be selective abut the subject matter and it’s usually relevant to local interests.
Obituaries…as long as it’s not mine!
So…in a nutshell all I can say is that I have only scratched the surface of what ODN “is”
I didn’t put in:
Art Shows
Curling…Hockey…Golf…Tennis….Krokinole
Pageantry
Movies in the Park…and theatre
Live theatre
Free music events
Christmas Light-up
Air Shows
Wine Festivals
Marathons
Fire Dept. Displays
Police reports
Health and Community Resource information
Senior’s events
All this and more….That’s what ODN is all about!
