The purpose of the open house, co-facilitated by Counterpoint Communications and Urban Forum Associates, was to present the concepts and recommendations gathered at the recent charette workshop and public review.
A number of renderings were on display, depicting scenarios that the consultants and the Charrette attendees favoured.
“The current flea market site was identified as potentially the key place magnet within the downtown,” Lance Berelowitz of Urban Forum Associates told the 60 or so people in attendance. “You can have a mixed use pedestrian plaza or town square, the heart of the community, we can imagine some modest amount of retail and potentially residential or commercial space above that.”
Berelowitz identified the land at Highway 97 and Cedar Street (in front of the IGA and the land across the street) as prime development sites for commercial uses.
“This suggests potential land uses over 25 years,” Berelowitz said. “None of this happens overnight.”
