Regional heritage program will have to wait
Council decided Monday to wait for an administration report before deciding whether to join a regional heritage site initiative.
Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen rural projects coordinator Lindsay Bourque told council the town’s annual share of the cost of the regional heritage program would be about $1,700.
The aim of the program, which has been under development since 2013, is to bring a region-wide approach to the development and promotion of heritage sites.
All municipalities in the RDOS must agree to the program for it to proceed.
Museum board looking for members and volunteers
Museum representative Councillor CJ Rhodes said the board of directors is seeking new members and volunteers as it continues efforts leading to the move to its new home.
The museum was scheduled to take over the Home Building Centre building next fall and move there in spring 2017. Events have led to the timetable being pushed back five years.
Rhodes said the fund-raising thermometer on the side Home Building site has been removed to reflect the new schedule, not because of the “disturbing and offensive” graffiti that recently appeared.
Everyone’s invited to Christmas light up
Mayor Sue McKortoff urged Osoyoos residents to attend the Christmas light-up festivities on December 4.
Besides the parade, which begins at 6:30, there will be a free pancake breakfast in the morning at Smitty’s for anyone showing up with a toy donation. Several choirs, including the Okanagan International Chorus, will be singing and downtown businesses are being urged to stay open until 7 p.m.
