Strength
Building physical strength by lifting weights or using your own bodyweight can benefit people of ALL AGES & may be especially important for those with health issues. Lifting weights will NOT make you bulky, unless you are specifically training for it. So WOMEN… this is for you too!
Strength training is not only useful to get Strong(er) but also helpful for getting fit & losing fat.
Building strength is great for bone health & improving or maintaining muscles. In some circumstances bone loss can even be reversed when a regular routine of lifting weights or using your own body weight is incorporated into your week.
Posture, balance & coordination is another benefit to regular weight training. This is a great protection against falling.
Do you have difficulty carrying your groceries? Do you have dogs or cats yet need assistance with their big bag of food or litter? What about the grandkids? Do you avoid picking them up because you’re afraid to hurt yourself or you know you just don’t have the strength anymore? If you answered yes to any of the above questions, then strength training is definitely something you’ll want to try!
Strength training will give you more energy & improve your mood :) Beats taking a happy pill! A better quality sleep & overall quality of life is to be expected. As older adults, building strength will ensure your independence much longer.
You don’t need expensive equipment or a gym membership. All you need is your body. Oliver now has the outdoor fitness equipment at Lions Park which is free! So bring a friend or two & have some fun while building strength!
We need to give our muscles time to rest, so it’s best to leave a day in between lifting weights.
