Habitat for Humanity Southeast BC is pleased to announce that Dale and JD Winn of Rock Creek will become the newest Habitat for Humanity partner family.
The Winn family had their home destroyed in the August wildfires and HFHSEBC will help fulfill their dream of rebuilding on familiar ground. The Wynn family will be the first Habitat for Humanity partner family in the Rock Creek area.
Habitat for Humanity is renowned for its volunteer response across Canada and our collective willingness to make a difference in our own communities. When the time comes to rebuild the Winn family home, another organization renowned for their volunteer response, Mennonite Disaster Services, has pledged their support to partner with HFHSEBC and the Rock Creek Westbridge Fire Needs Committee.
HFHSEBC would like to acknowledge all the volunteers engaged in assisting the families recover from this disaster and are committed to helping their communities on the road to recovery.
Bob Huff, Executive Director of HFHSEBC has stated; “every day for the past two months, people from the Boundary region have been volunteering and responding to the needs of the people devastated by the fires. In some ways, you could say that disasters bring out the best in people.” Bob Huff went on to say “the partnership with Mennonite Disaster Services and the Rock Creek Westbridge Fire Needs Committee is about more than rebuilding destroyed homes, it’s about building hope.”
At a ceremony held in Rock Creek on Oct 23, the Managers of Buy-Low Foods in Oliver, Grand Forks, Osoyoos and AG Foods in Osoyoos presented a cheque to HFHSEBC for $17,100 to assist with the wildfire recovery efforts. The four stores accepted donations from customers who gave generously at the checkouts at the 4 locations. “While the people of Rock Creek and Oliver have begun the long journey to rebuild after the recent fires, it is uplifting to see the generous contributions made to this campaign,” says Sam Corea – Director, Retail Operations for Buy-Low Food Stores.
