Rock Creek – Donations collected at 4 south Okanagan Grocery Stores are going to the victims of the recent Rock Creek and Oliver wild fires.
From August 14 to October 17, customers gave generously at the 20 checkouts across the 4 locations Of Buy-Low Foods Oliver, Buy Low-Food Grand Forks, Buy-Low Foods Osoyoos and AG Foods in Osoyoos and have raised just over $17,000.
“Our sincere wishes go to all those impacted by the fires as they begin to rebuild their lives with help from the Buy-Low Foods Group. We are grateful to those customers and staff members for their efforts” said Bob Huff, ED for Habitat for Humanity Southeast BC. The money will help Habitat for Humanity rebuild a home, that was destroyed by the fire and assist with the construction of outbuildings.
“While the people of Rock Creek and Oliver have begun the long journey to rebuild after the recent fires, it is uplifting to see the generous contributions made to this campaign,” says Sam Corea – Director, Retail Operations.
Over 30 homes were destroyed and hundreds of people in the Rock Creek and Oliver communities were evacuated during the South Okanagan and Boundary wildfires in August 2015. The Buy-Low Foods Group and Habitat for Humanity Southeast BC would like to acknowledge the people from the Boundary area that were engaged in the relief work in helping the families recover from this disaster and who gave of themselves in remarkable ways
