Kiwanis Market – Where Does the Money Go?
Each year the Kiwanis Club of Oliver sets out an Annual Budget, of where they’d like to donate the money’s received from sales at the Kiwanis Market. All items for sale at the Market are donated, the Kiwanis Club does not buy anything. Used items in good condition come from folks donating furniture and household goods to the Market. The workers at the Market are all volunteers, except for the occasional labourers who are required to handle the heavy items. The Market does not charge PST/GST but must pay on the total of daily receipts to the Government.
After all expenses for the fund raising overhead is paid (including Taxes ‘PST/GST’, Insurance, Utilities, Truck operation, & Warehouse Taxes) all of the residual money raised is donated as budgeted to groups and organizations in the local community plus some Kiwanis World Service Projects. Donations are not made on a regular basis and all recipients are asked to submit request for funding. For 2015-16 donations has been budgeted for:

The Budget Items do not include every eventuality, and the Kiwanis Club of Oliver entertains requests from any deserving group. In addition to fundraising through the Market, the Kiwanis Club of Oliver operates 50 senior housing units plus an 18 family housing complex.
The Kiwanis Market which prides itself on the fact everyone working there is a volunteer, is “a service oriented organization”, service to the community is.
