Bruce Mackereth (Summerland) and Shana Cachola (Oliver) raced fender to fender for the Pro Bracket trophy Sunday, October 11.
Wine Country Racing winds up 2015 season at Richter Pass Motorplex
For one, final time the Wine Country Racing Association (WCRA) put on a show for the South Okanagan to behold. Race fans watched 51 cars in side-by-side drag racing, down an 1/8 mile track, all day long. The farewell race is always a tough one for racers. They know that they’ll take their rides home for a long winter. But, rest assured, that new plans for faster cars are already in the works. These gear-heads don’t idle for long.
Winners for Sunday’s bracket racing:
Bikes/Sleds Bracket – Warren Brown (Oliver – 2002 Kawasaki) took a place he’s fairly used to in the winners’ circle by beating out Dan Ofukany (West Kelowna, BC – 1999 Arctic Cat) in the final round.
Super Pro Bracket – Lorne Pearson (Grand Forks – 1896 Chevy S-10) zipped to victory over Brad Baxendale (Summerland – 1969 Beaumont).
Pro Bracket – Shana Cachola (Oliver, BC – 1972 Chevy Nova) beat Bruce Mackereth (Summerland, BC – 1955 Chevy 2 door) to the finish line.
Street Bracket – Jim Behnke (Mission – 1971 Plymouth Scamp) hauls the trophy a long way home by triumphing over Blair Ogilvy (Osoyoos – 1981 Chevy Pick-up).
Ron Tasker Memorial Sportsman of the Year – This honour was bestowed to Brad Heppner and Julia Hudson (BJ Racing) from Sicamouse, BC. Brad and Julia haul their rail car a long way every race, just for a little fun.
A new trophy, custom made by Oliver’s Cliff Meeds, is the “hard luck” trophy. This was given to the poor racer who broke his car more than anyone else this year.
Sadly Awarded to: Dean Book of Penticton. The best part about Dean is the well-known fact that he’s going to be re-figuring and rebuilding his truck for more racing next year. Thanks for being a good sport Dean.
