“Compost site” by Crystalclear

RDOS Directors approved a contract for $108,420 to SLR Consulting for a study on organics in the garbage retrieval system. The RDOS long range plan calls for land to be found for regional composting.
Think about it – someday there may be no landfills or dumps. Everything in the waste stream will be collected, recycled, composted, up-cycled and consumed.
Since 2009 the RDOS has been putting together an action plan to do just that – Now in phase 3 of a multi-year feasibility study so that compost could be used on 8 publicly managed properties.
But a quality private site to do compost is needed and is being sought.
The latest contractor/consultant is SLR for over a $100 thousand to develop a request for proposal for a private compost site and develop a future strategic plan for RDOS directors to consider.
Someday organic waste: food waste, yard waste, bio-solids, farm waste will be chipped – sliced and diced into a soup mix that can be consumed by the earth in various forms.
The RDOS plan seems to indicate it does not want to buy land to do that but find private property and an operator of the compost facility allowing the Regional District to be the conduit/funder of such an enterprise.
