The British Columbia Wine Awards were Thursday at the kick-off event for the Fall Okanagan Wine Festival.
A record 560 wines entered into the competition.
The awards are the oldest and largest wine competition in B.C. and are open to wineries that use 100 per cent of their juice from fruit grown in the province.
The Premier’s Award, given to the top wine in British Columbia, was awarded to the 2010 Jackson Triggs Okanagan Estate Grand Reserve Entourage Sparkling Brut.
In addition, six platinum awards were given out to the cream of the crop of B.C. wines, and Kismet Estate Winery in Oliver took home two of them. Their 2013 Syrah and 2014 Riesling Icewine were awarded top honours.
Platinum awards were also handed out to Sandhill Wines for their 2013 Small Lots Syrah Phantom Creek Vineyard in Oliver and to St. Hubertus & Oak Bay Estate Winery in Kelowna for their 2013 Gamay Noir.
Rounding out the top prizes, Tightrope Winery in Penticton won for their 2012 Riesling, and Wild Goose Vineyards, south of Okanagan Falls, won for their 2014 Gewurztraminer.
