Temporary brine-pipe fix complete – at a discount costing about $21 thousand. Once a study is complete and financing is in place the Arena will be modernized at a cost of close to half a million dollars to give it 20 more years of use in the community.
Carol Sheridan of the Oliver Parks and Recreation Society said the contractor suggested a certain method of doing a “fix” that should be good for two years before a permanent solution can be found to the problems in the arena that became evident earlier this year. Brine pipes in the floor were leaking.
Sheridan says a facility study is needed and should show the need for a new arena or major renovations.
Above OPRS staff have the ice in and now doing painted lines for hockey. Sheridan expects that both minor hockey and figure-skating will be highlighted on signs under the ice – the two main tenants of the building in winter.
