Garbage
I took out the garbage – a weekly routine. Then I began to think about how important this unpleasant weekly task is. What would it be like if we couldn’t get rid of garbage? Come to think of it, our bodies have the most efficient and unique garbage disposal system on the planet. The same red corpuscles that deliver oxygen to the lungs pick up the carbon dioxide and perhaps other waste. We wouldn’t want our groceries delivered by the garbage truck!! Both the oxygen and perhaps certain wastes pass through membranes into the lung’s 300,000 air sacs without losing any blood.
Our kidneys filter out liquid, toxic wastes while the intestines that have gleaned nutrients eventually excrete unwanted solid wastes. We’d be dead in a very short time if even one of these functions failed. It’s a complex, created design, not the product of chance. Our life depends on it. We’ve got to regularly dispose of garbage.
Are we getting rid of toxins in our social, spiritual and emotional life? Bluntly speaking are we letting resentments, bitterness, hatred, anger, pride and numerous other ‘garbage’ pile up inside? It is very hard to consistently rid ourselves of these sins, but it is such a relief to know that our Savior can completely cleanse us from all sin. Check out 1 John 1:9.
