Pictures taken by BC Forest Service for the Oliver Museum
More on the story from Larry Shannon of the Okanagan Historical Society: “I was driving home on Fairview Rd. on Thursday, around noon when I noticed that the backfires, were uncomfortably close to the old Fairview cemetery. I phoned the Fire Information Officer to make sure they were aware of the cemetery and to hopefully convince them to protect it. Colette Fauchon, RFT said they were aware of it and that it was on the safe side of their main fire guard. She had actually already asked for more information on the cemetery from Pam Woolard at the Archives, including it’s precise location. The pictures of the area at the archives were quite dated, so Pam asked Ms. Fauchon to take some photos and pass them on to her.
Physical access to the cemetery has become problematic in recent years due to private property issues. It seems a shame after over 100 years of unrestricted public access to the site.”
