
Yesterday – Oliver RCMP, Keremeos Traffic Services responded to a MVI on Hwy 97 near Gallagher Lake, just South of the 4 lane passing section where it was reported a vehicle had struck a male cyclist on HWY 97.
Witnesses advised that the vehicle passed them on the left hand side and then when returning to her lane overshot it and hit a cyclist then the vehicle went off highway to the left and struck a utility pole. Live wires were across the vehicle as well as the Hwy. The driver motioned that she was ok with hand signals. FORTIS attended and made the scene safe.
Oliver Fire Deptment extracted the female who was taken to hospital to be checked. The male cyclist did not need medical attention suffering only from road rash. Traffic had to be stopped for 2.5 hrs due to hazard. Alcohol not a factor in the collision. Charges against the driver are being considered.
