BC Forest Ministry – Wildfire will conduct a controlled burn today west of Oliver
“We are burning off brush on the ground that is within the existing fire area. It is always the intent to put out fire, however, in this extremely dry summer season fire burns underground in tree roots and can continue to burn until a major rain event occurs or until winter arrives.
We anticipate that the controlled burn will help alleviate some of the extra debris on the ground so that the fire does not burn into the winter months.
The burn will use a process with helicopters that drop ignition directly to the ground so the trees do not candle.”
