No-go for Canal Trail upgrade
The town’s request for federal funding to help pave and light a large section of the canal trail was unsuccessful, chief administrative officer Barry Romanko reported Tuesday.
The recently announced Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program sought proposals for local improvements to help celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday in 2017.
The town’s proposal was to pave and light the trail from 62nd Avenue to Highway 3.
No money for novice hockey tourney
A request from the South Okanagan Minor Hockey Association for $2,500 to help pay for a novice tournament banquet was rejected Tuesday by council.
Fearing that acceding to such a request will set a precedent or other sports groups, council offered instead free use of the Sonora Centre to host a banquet.
The association told council last month it needed the funding to provide a banquet for the hoped-for 16 teams to make the event more attractive in competition with a similar event in Penticton at the same time.
