Reservations
Making reservations is a common event. We reserve a flight, a motel room, a restaurant meal, a tee time for golf, a seat for the concert and many other things. Did you know that God is open for reservations too? It wouldn’t be a good idea to just show up at a cruise ship and expect to have a place available. But God says He will have a place for those who come. John 6:37 All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away.
A. When we make a reservation here on earth we will be asked, “And how will you be paying for this?” Reserving a place with the Lord after this life is over is free but not cheap. Jesus says, “I’ll pay for it with my own blood.” 1 Cor. 6:20 “You were bought at a price.”
B. What are the things He’ll reserve for us?
1. He’ll reserve a remarkable flight for you. 1 Thess. 4:16-17 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.
2. He’ll reserve a room for you. John 14:2 In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you.
3. He’ll reserve a seat for you at His banquet. Rev. 19:9 Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!’
C. How do you make such a reservation? The story of the tax collector and the Pharisee in Luke 18:10-14 tells us that when the tax collector prayed, “God have mercy on me a sinner.” He left that place justified. He had made his reservation. He acknowledged God, admitted his sin, and asked for mercy. It was a triple A plan: acknowledge, admit, ask. Have you made your reservation?
