West Kelowna/Kelowna/Lake Country – Theft of vehicles increased over last year.
Kelowna RCMP which include West Kelowna and Lake Country have noticed a rise in vehicle thefts this year over years previous. Stats from January 2015 until August 2015 have revealed that 60 vehicles were stolen in total. This is up from 2014 stats and 2013 stats, during that same time period.
- Time period January 1 to August 25
- 2015 – 60 vehicles stolen
- 2014 – 40 vehicles stolen
- 2013 – 23 vehicles stolen
Of the 60 vehicles stolen this year (2015), a whopping 20 were taken because the keys were left in the automobile.
“Kelowna RCMP are reminding citizens not to leave their keys inside unattended vehicles” says Cpl Joe Duncan, spokesperson for the Kelowna RCMP. “We hope to educate people before they become victims”
